Chinese immigration - 19th century
'pull' factors of canada
On the other hand about 'push' factors of China, Canada had their own 'pull' factors in order to make people immigrate to Canada. Canada in the 19th century was economic and industrially weak due to the rising birth of the Dominion of Canada, as well as other problems. Since the economy of Canada was terrible at that time, it represented a 'pull' factor. The country of Canada would need more workers in order to strengthen the economy of Canada. While in China, there was a hidden 'pull' factor. This 'hidden' 'pull' factor was seen from the sea captains of the Pacific Ocean. The sea captains that traveled on the Pacific Ocean would inform all of China all about the greatness of Canada and all of its advantages. Also, there were 'events' that triggered many Chinese immigration from China. From all of this, it resulted in many immigration acts made by the Chinese people.
As we start off with employment problems, we all know that Canada in the 18th and early 19th century was weak economically (as well as industrially, socially, and politically unsustainable). The economy was weak because most of the workers of Canada were immigrants of Europe looking for a new and better life. What is also worse is the employment of the western areas/provinces of Canada. Western Canada had low immigration before 1950 due to the fact that most Europeans immigrated to Upper Canada, Lower Canada, and the Maritimes. As a result from the low population in Western Canada, it resulted in great options for Chinese people to immigrate to WesternCanada for a better life and legitimate jobs that they could do to earn money. But, how did the Chinese actually knew what Canada was? Well, there was a solution that helped the Chinese know what Canada was. That solution came from the sea captains of the Pacific.

Sea captains were the ones that actually informed the Chinese what Canada was. The sea captains traveled the Pacific constantly, so they obviously knew what Canada was due to their occupational demands. So, they had information about Canada. The sea captains would then inform all the Chinese (by word and literature) that Canada was a great area for living due to many things (as well as how the Chinese could escape from the horribleness of China at that time). From the information made by the sea captains, this resulted in the mass immigration by the Chinese people. But, the legitimate reason (and the start) of why the Chinese mass immigrated to Canada was actually not the information and 'push' factors of China. It would be influential, but it was not the real purpose. The real purpose was to actually obtain more money from the Fraser Gold Rush in 1858 (1858 was the starting year of mass Chinese immigration).
_ The Fraser Gold Rush, that occurred in 1858, made many Chinese immigrate. The Chinese people wanted money because they wanted to get out of poverty. So, the Chinese people immigrated, but they had a plan for the gold rush. Once the Chinese got gold from the gold rush, they would either do two things. They would either send the gold to their family in China to get out of poverty, or their would just go back to China being rich. As a result, the Chinese people's main reason of immigration was for money from the Gold Rush (this occurred with the Cariboo Gold Rush to obtain gold, but there was no mass immigration from China to Canada [also, the Chinese did not care about the Klondike Gold Rush]).
There is overall not a lot of 'pull' factors that Canada possessed to 'lure' people to immigrate to Canada in the 19th century. But, most of the reason why that Canada had mass immigration from China was due to the discovery of the Fraser Gold Rush in 1858, as well as how terrible the state of China was. From both the 'push' factors of China and the 'pull' factors of Canada, it resulted in immigration by the Chinese and the effects that Canada received from the Chinese immigration (explained later).
